Florida International University teaches 55,000 students real-world media monitoring with Meltwater

Florida International University (FIU) sought to make its Global Strategic Communications curriculum more practical by giving students hands-on experience with the professional media monitoring tools they would encounter in their careers. The challenge was moving from theoretical concepts to practical application, as students lacked experience with media analysis and identifying key influencers. Assistant Professor Elizabeth Marsh turned to the Meltwater platform to address this need.

Using Meltwater, FIU integrated real-world media monitoring and intelligence into the classroom. Students monitored brands throughout the semester, using Meltwater's dashboards to analyze coverage volume, sentiment, and reach, and to understand crisis communication. The solution allowed the university to build lessons around live case studies, imparting valuable skills and confidence to students, who left the course better prepared for professional success.
