A Meltwater Case Study
Florida International University (FIU), a major research university serving 55,000 students in Miami, needed to give communications students practical, hands-on experience with media monitoring and influencer identification. Professor Elizabeth Marsh found that while students understood marketing theory, few had real-world exposure to the tools and analytics they would use in professional roles.
FIU integrated Meltwater into coursework so students monitor selected brands across traditional and social media throughout each semester, using dashboards to track volume, sentiment, reach, spikes and crisis impact. The platform lets students identify key influencers, benchmark campaigns, and practice crisis response — leaving them more confident and better prepared for careers in PR and communications.
