Simplifying a complex IT estate with a single solution

The Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE), which designs, manufactures and maintains the UK’s nuclear warheads and supports national nuclear security, was managing a large, complex IT estate with many systems, vendors and applications. Relying on PowerPoint and paper-based designs, AWE needed to understand software costs and usage, map dependencies, plan technology refreshes, and gain full business visibility across its IT environment.

AWE adopted MEGA International’s HOPEX platform (HOPEX IT Portfolio Management and HOPEX Architecture) with support from the MEGA Services team to inventory systems, model relationships and produce graphical deliverables for stakeholders. The implementation delivered a central IT repository, clearer system-to-application relationships, software obsolescence roadmaps and out-of-the-box reporting—improving planning, reducing duplication and simplifying compliance and audit readiness.
