Body Surface Translations improves 3-D child measurement data with MEDL Mobile

Body Surface Translations, backed by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, faced the challenge of accurately identifying child malnutrition with traditional measurement methods that were prone to human error and difficult to administer. Their mission was to modernize this process for use in developing regions with unreliable infrastructure. MEDL Mobile developed a solution using a mobile application for iOS and Android.

MEDL Mobile's solution utilized a tablet with a third-party depth camera to capture a 3D image of a child, which was then uploaded and analyzed using their proprietary AutoAnthro system. This process provided quicker, easier, and more accurate measurements. MEDL also optimized the data upload for low-connectivity areas, ensuring reliable data aggregation. The resulting technology was successfully demonstrated at the Gates Foundation Goalkeepers event.
