Valley Presbyterian Hospital Promotes Interoperability through CommonWell

Valley Presbyterian Hospital, a 350-bed acute care facility in Van Nuys, Los Angeles, needed a more efficient way to improve interoperability across a diverse patient population and meet Promoting Interoperability requirements. Working with MEDITECH, the hospital sought a solution that would reduce the burden of point-to-point interfaces, make it easier to identify where patients had received care, and support better information exchange with local hospitals, clinics, and outside EHRs.

MEDITECH helped Valley Presbyterian Hospital implement CommonWell Services and its bridge to the Carequality Framework, including the CommonWell record locator service and standards-based exchange. As a result, VPH expanded connectivity to more than 40,000 providers nationwide, improved access to patient summaries from outside organizations, and achieved a more than 75% capture rate for previously missed ED patients. The hospital also reduced reliance on direct messaging and traditional interfaces while strengthening interoperability across its care network.
