The Valley Hospital Uses MEDITECH’s Surveillance Solution to Monitor and Manage COVID-19 Patients

The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey, faced an intense COVID-19 surge as the pandemic hit the New York metro area. With many units devoted to coronavirus patients and concern over PPE, ventilator, and isolation needs, the hospital needed a better way to track patients’ COVID-19 status. The Valley Hospital used MEDITECH’s Quality and Surveillance solution to help monitor patients in real time.

MEDITECH implemented evidence-based Surveillance profiles, special indicators, public status boards, and watchlists to flag positive, negative, and pending COVID-19 cases across the EHR. This gave clinicians faster visibility into patient status, helped manage isolation protocols, and improved coordination for Infection Control and nursing staff. The solution also supported Valley in refining its workflows over time, and the hospital reported using 170 surveillance profiles to adapt to changing needs and improve safety and compliance.
