Physicians at Halifax Health Go Mobile with MEDITECH Expanse

Halifax Health, a large 680-bed health system in Daytona Beach, Florida, needed to improve physician efficiency in a busy emergency department that serves both local residents and many tourists. The challenge was to reduce time spent tracking down prior histories and documenting away from the bedside, while improving workflow and patient care. Halifax Health worked with MEDITECH and its Expanse EHR to address these mobility and usability needs.

Using MEDITECH Expanse on tablets and mobile devices, Halifax Health enabled physicians to review charts, place orders, document care, and complete discharges at the bedside instead of returning to desktop computers. The result was less administrative burden, higher provider satisfaction, stronger patient engagement, and improved ED throughput, including a reduction in length of stay by half a day. Halifax also reported savings of up to an hour of documentation time for some physicians and a notable increase in physician productivity.
