MEDITECH’s Expanse Point of Care Mobilizes Nurses at KDMC

King’s Daughters Medical Center (KDMC), a 99-bed nonprofit acute care hospital in Brookhaven, Mississippi, needed to modernize documentation and medication administration while meeting growing regulatory demands. The hospital wanted to save staff time, improve patient satisfaction, and reduce the burden of cumbersome WOWs and desktops. KDMC turned to MEDITECH and its Expanse Point of Care solution to help nurses and therapists work more efficiently at the bedside.

With MEDITECH’s Expanse Point of Care, KDMC gave clinicians mobile access to core EHR functions on a smartphone-like device, including documentation, lab and order review, and medication administration with built-in barcode scanning. The impact was significant: adoption climbed quickly across units, IV administration boosted usage from 46% to 82%, and nurses reported fewer steps, more patient-facing time, and faster workflows. MEDITECH also helped KDMC reduce reliance on separate scanners and desktop devices, while improving engagement and overall care delivery.
