KDMC Reduces ED LOS by One Hour Using MEDITECH Expanse

King’s Daughters Medical Center (KDMC), a 99-bed nonprofit hospital in Brookhaven, Mississippi, was looking to improve emergency department performance after patients were spending about 200 minutes in the ED. The hospital wanted to better support its community-focused mission while reducing wait times and improving the patient experience using MEDITECH’s integrated EHR and Expanse platform.

MEDITECH helped KDMC transition to the web-based Expanse EHR and mobile, tablet-based workflows, supported by standard templates, canned text, and tighter integration with acute care admissions. As a result, KDMC reduced ED door-to-discharge time by 1 hour, from 210 to 151 minutes, cut door-to-doc time from 38 to 16 minutes, reduced visits beyond 6 hours from 175 to 50, and achieved these gains without increasing FTEs despite a 15% rise in patient volume.
