Frederick Memorial Hospital Reduces Sepsis Mortality Rate by 65 Percent with MEDITECH

Frederick Memorial Hospital, the only acute care hospital in Frederick County, needed to reduce sepsis mortality and improve SEP-1 Core Quality Measure compliance. Working with MEDITECH and its EHR platform, the hospital set out to replace ad hoc sepsis care with standardized screening, documentation, and treatment practices across the organization.

MEDITECH helped Frederick Memorial Hospital implement a sepsis screening tool, bundled order sets, reflex lactate ordering, streamlined documentation, and multidisciplinary review workflows aligned with the Sepsis Management Toolkit. As a result, sepsis mortality fell from nearly 16% to 4.76%, observed sepsis rates dropped by more than 50%, and SEP-1 compliance improved from 32% to 80% and even reached 91% at its peak.
