Emanate Health Advances COVID-19 Contact Tracing with MEDITECH Professional Services

Emanate Health, the largest nonprofit health care provider in California’s San Gabriel Valley, needed a faster, more reliable way to conduct COVID-19 contact tracing as cases rose in 2020. Working with MEDITECH Professional Services and MEDITECH Expanse EHR, the organization set out to identify patients and staff at high risk of exposure when an inpatient tested positive.

MEDITECH helped Emanate Health build automated Business and Clinical Analytics dashboards using EHR data and external sources such as scheduling and time-and-attendance records. The solution enabled the team to quickly identify exposure windows, roommates, staff interactions, and possible transmission chains, helping prioritize high-risk cases and notify potentially exposed employees. In practice, Emanate Health screened more than 51,000 tests and treated just over 7,000 patients for COVID-19, while dramatically reducing the time needed to investigate exposures and expanding a process that can also be used for other infectious diseases.
