Case Study: Big Sandy Health Care achieves Meaningful Use compliance, HITECH incentives and improved patient engagement with Meditab Software’s IMS

Connecting with the Community Using IMS

Big Sandy Health Care, a private non-profit FQHC serving roughly 16,000 patients across five clinics in eastern Kentucky, needed to move off paper charts to an EHR that could meet FQHC reporting requirements and be highly customizable to clinic workflows. After an RFP and on-site demonstrations, Big Sandy Health Care chose IMS from Meditab Software for its ease of use, customization and robust patient-facing tools.

Meditab Software implemented IMS—including the IMS CarePortal and the IMSGo mobile app—providing customizable templates, scheduling tools, an automated claim scrubber and strong training/support. As a result, Big Sandy attested to Meaningful Use in its first year, was among the first to receive a HITECH incentive payment from Kentucky Medicaid in 2011, launched a patient portal with over 1,200 users and a 96% recommendation rate, and realized faster, cleaner claims processing plus measurable gains in staff efficiency and population data management.
