Telemedicine Helps Restore Work-Life Balance for Family Physician with 3-hour Commute

Jensen Family Medicine, founded by Scott Jensen, is a primary care practice serving patients of all ages from Queen Creek, Arizona. The practice faced a major work-life balance challenge because Dr. Jensen and his family live in Lakeside, a 166-mile, three-hour commute from the clinic, so in summer 2019 he turned to Medici’s telemedicine app to reduce travel while continuing patient care.

Using Medici’s smartphone app for text, voice, video and photo consults, Dr. Jensen established a weekly “virtual care day” and expanded remote services across labs, pediatrics, dermatology and social-determinants assessments. The Medici solution enrolled roughly 800 patients within months, enabled about four additional virtual visits per day on top of ~26 in-person visits, and lets him charge $27 for a five-minute consult (covering the app cost with roughly 30 minutes of monthly telehealth); overall it increased patient satisfaction, boosted productivity, and materially improved his work-life balance.
