OBIX, a leading perinatal data management system deployed in a Southwestern community hospital’s labor and delivery unit, struggled with inefficiency because it did not integrate with the hospital’s MEDHOST EHR. Nurses were forced to re-enter admissions data, toggle between OBIX and the MEDHOST system to view labs and fetal monitoring, and manually relay information to physicians—creating redundant work and diverting time from patient care.

MEDHOST worked closely with OBIX to build and test bi-directional interfaces that integrated ADT, lab results, fetal monitoring, and medication administration between the two systems. The MEDHOST–OBIX integration provided a single point of entry for patient data, real-time vital sign flow to the EHR, in-system lab alerts, and consolidated MAR visibility—significantly reducing documentation burden, improving clinical workflow and patient safety, and requiring minimal hospital IT time for implementation.
