A Medallia Case Study
VIA University College, one of Denmark’s six university colleges with eight campuses and nearly 20,000 students, wanted to digitalize its problem-based learning approach to boost student collaboration, innovation, and engagement with external practice partners. To build VIA Crowd Lab — an online crowdsourcing initiative that opens the university to practitioners and supports sustainable, practice-driven solutions — VIA selected Medallia and the Medallia Ideas platform to power its digital learning communities.
Using Medallia Ideas, VIA launched roughly 30 challenges that engage students, staff, researchers, and external organizations, turning crowd-generated ideas into actionable solutions—examples include student input that informed VIA’s strategy, creative packaging solutions for REMA 1000, and a recurring nursing-student collaboration with a local hospital now embedded in a third-semester course. Medallia’s features (staging, voting, leaderboards, real-time insights) have increased engagement, creativity, and external partnerships, scaled participation across the university, and produced tangible inputs that VIA has incorporated into strategy and ongoing practice collaborations.
