A MecSoft Corporation Case Study
The Minnesota Giant, a team of RC hobbyists and veterans led by Zachary Geragi, undertook the historic challenge of building the world's first flight-certified, ⅛ scale radio-controlled B1 Lancer Bomber. With no prior CAD or CAM experience, the team needed a powerful yet accessible solution to generate the complex g-code required to CNC machine the aircraft's numerous components from carbon fiber composites and other materials. A colleague recommended the VisualCAM software from MecSoft Corporation.
Using VisualCAM for SOLIDWORKS, the team taught themselves CNC machining and successfully programmed all toolpaths for the project. This included complex multi-setup parts like the critical elevator bearing block, which required precise machining from all six sides. The solution from MecSoft Corporation enabled the team to machine high-tolerance components, facilitating the construction of the 18-foot-long bomber and putting them on track to achieve their goal of a successful maiden flight.
