McCafferty Dulcimers, a custom maker of fine Appalachian dulcimers, required a precise and repeatable manufacturing process to craft intricate mother-of-pearl inlays and complex fretboard contours. Owner Terry McCafferty, an experienced engineer and craftsman, sought to integrate modern CNC precision with traditional woodworking. MecSoft Corporation provided their RhinoCAM software to meet this challenge.

Using RhinoCAM, McCafferty Dulcimers implemented a detailed CNC machining solution. This included 2½ Axis operations for profiling delicate mother-of-pearl inlays and pocketing the fretboards to receive them, followed by 3 Axis machining strategies to create the instrument's complex 3D contours. The solution from MecSoft provided the necessary precision for tight tolerances and repeatable results, enabling the creation of both standard and custom instrument designs with high-quality craftsmanship.
