Cncfins, a custom windsurfing fin manufacturer operated by Michael Wazenski, sought to produce high-performance fins but found that competing CAM software was difficult to use and functionally limited. The challenge was to find a powerful yet accessible CAM solution that could generate the precise toolpaths required to machine complex fin geometries from a tough composite material. This led them to the vendor, MecSoft Corporation, and their product, RhinoCAM.

MecSoft's solution involved implementing RhinoCAM MILL Standard, which provided an intuitive and powerful platform to program the CNC machining of the fins. The software was easy to learn and worked perfectly with the customer's CNC router on the first attempt, successfully generating gouge-free toolpaths for complex 3-axis finishing and 2-axis operations. The measurable results include a machining time of approximately 1 hour and 35 minutes per setup and the production of world-class fins that have contributed to wins on the PWA World Tour, all thanks to the effective solution provided by MecSoft.
