Providing Telehealth Solutions Connecting Consumers and Healthcare Providers

Cone Health, an integrated not-for-profit network serving multiple counties in North Carolina and Virginia, needed to build a virtual-care program to remain competitive and meet rising patient demand. After evaluating vendors, Cone Health selected MDLIVE in March 2016 to deliver a branded, white‑labeled telehealth solution that met its three must-haves: a consistent branded practice, expanded service offerings, and the capabilities to achieve Tier 1 local telehealth status.

MDLIVE implemented 24/7 telehealth for employees, a December 2016 direct-to-consumer rollout, reseller programs for local employers, rapid deployment and staff training at a rural clinic, and Epic EHR integration to extend services into chronic care and pilot programs (chemotherapy follow-ups, Medicare wellness, school health, etc.). The MDLIVE platform helped Cone Health reduce reliance on ER/urgent care visits—projected savings of over $500,000 in the program’s first full year (an expected 2.5:1 ROI)—while expanding access and enabling multiple ongoing pilots to broaden community care.
