A MDLIVE Case Study
Optima Health, one of the largest health plans in Virginia covering about 300,000 members across Virginia and Ohio, wanted to expand access to care and reduce expensive emergency and urgent‑care visits by adding telehealth to its benefits. After reviewing options, Optima Health selected MDLIVE’s virtual‑care/telehealth services and launched the benefit on January 1, 2013 to give members timely, remote access to clinicians.
MDLIVE delivered an end‑to‑end telehealth solution that produced thousands of virtual visits and clear financial impact: 3,411 visits in 2018, $707,100 in productivity savings and roughly $964,400–$1,000,000 in total savings (including $1 million in the first five months of 2018). By partnering with MDLIVE, Optima Health expanded access for members while lowering costs and driving measurable savings for the plan.
