A McLaren Software Case Study
AMEC Natural Resources, a leading provider of total-life asset services to upstream oil and gas clients (including British Gas, Shell, BP and ExxonMobil), faced a major information-management challenge: projects can involve up to 100,000 documents and millions of single-document transactions across multiple contractors and global execution centres. Traditional end-of-project handovers were time-consuming, error-prone and costly (historically taking up to three months and costing £500k–£1M), with disparate customer systems and manual processes threatening schedule, quality and cost control.
AMEC implemented McLaren Software’s Fusion as an Information Management Model (IMM), integrating document repositories, browser-based access, automated customer updates and interfaces to AMEC systems to enable 24/7 access and incremental quality checks throughout a project. The solution eliminated the “one-off” handover bottleneck, gave owners early visibility, reduced handover effort and costs, improved data completeness and version control (used by hundreds of users on major projects and producing thousands of workpacks and document transactions), and led to a worldwide enterprise licence and multi-year support agreement.
