BC Hydro, one of Canada’s largest utilities, launched the Making Our Drawings Sustainable (MODS) program to modernize engineering drawing management across generation and transmission assets. Faced with over 700,000 drawings (75% paper), four legacy systems, and the need for consistent, auditable, and accessible drawings to support a renewed growth phase, BC Hydro required a single, secure system to improve safety, efficiency and control.

BC Hydro partnered with McLaren, IBM FileNet P8, ABSU and others to consolidate processes and migrate all drawing types into McLaren Enterprise on the FileNet platform. The solution retired four legacy systems, delivered a web-based search portal and automated transmittals, and created a single source of truth—resulting in faster validated issuance, better field access to PDFs, enforced role-based security, reduced backlog and improved auditability and operational efficiency.
