Washington State University - Customer Case Study

Washington State University needed a new engineering and STEM building for its North Puget Sound campus that reflected innovative technology and met high sustainability goals. To achieve this, the university partnered with McKinstry for the design and delivery of integrated mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems.

McKinstry implemented several high-performance strategies, including a natural stack ventilation atrium, a VRF/DOAS HVAC system with heat recovery from the data center, a large rooftop solar array, and a rainwater reuse system. The results were exceptional: an extremely low EUI of 25.1 kBtu/sqft/year, a 45% improvement on energy code requirements, LEED Gold certification, and an annual water savings of over 450,000 gallons. McKinstry's solutions exceeded energy targets and significantly reduced the building's environmental impact.
