Skamania Public Utility District boasts big savings with Advanced Metering Infrastructure

Skamania Public Utility District, a non-profit utility provider, was facing challenges with increasing system losses, labor-intensive manual meter reading, and aging infrastructure that led to inaccurate billing and safety concerns for its employees. To address this, they partnered with vendor McKinstry to develop a more effective metering strategy using Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI).

McKinstry provided consultative assistance, managed the project, and facilitated the installation of a new AMI system that included replacing approximately 8,200 meters. The solution, delivered through an Energy Performance Contract, is estimated to achieve $128,000 in annual utility savings and $251,100 in annual operational savings for the district. McKinstry's implementation provides real-time data, reduces labor costs, and improves outage response for the community.
