Engaging Students and Staff in Energy Use Goals Yields Big Savings in Second Largest School District in Nevada

Washoe County School District, the second largest school district in Nevada, faced challenges including a budget deficiency and the need to modernize facilities while increasing energy efficiency. To address this, the district partnered with vendor McKinstry through an Energy Performance Contract (EPC) to fund improvements and decrease energy consumption across its 105 buildings.

McKinstry implemented a wide range of energy conservation measures, including LED lighting and water conservation upgrades, and provided its Reveal™ energy performance dashboard for monitoring. This solution achieved 18.8% energy savings and 14.2% water savings, resulting in $2.5 million in annual savings. McKinstry also deployed its powerED program to engage students and staff, furthering the district's sustainability goals and empowering the community.
