A McKinstry Case Study
Denver International Airport (DEN) sought to reduce its environmental impact and operational costs while preparing for future growth outlined in its Vision 100 plan. To achieve its ambitious sustainability and resiliency goals, the airport partnered with McKinstry for an Investment Grade Audit to identify opportunities for energy and water efficiency upgrades across its vast campus.
McKinstry developed an $83 million Energy Performance Contract, the largest in Colorado's history, which is projected to save over $4.5 million in annual utility and operational costs. The solution implemented by McKinstry includes retrofitting tens of thousands of light fixtures with LEDs, upgrading plumbing across the airport to save water, and installing new energy management control systems. The project will reduce carbon emissions by over 30,000 metric tons annually and guarantees a minimum of $17 million in contracts for local minority and women-owned businesses.
