A MCIM Case Study

Preview of the Fortune 10 Bank Case Study

Using MCIM to identify and preempt systemic battery failures

The Fortune 10 Bank faced a significant challenge with a high rate of UPS battery failures across its large portfolio of over 400 battery strings. Its efforts to diagnose the root cause were hindered by poor data collection practices. The bank turned to vendor MCIM and its Mission Critical Information Management service for a solution.

MCIM addressed the problem by first identifying the data gaps and then running a program for the client and its providers to update records accurately. By leveraging MCIM’s Enterprise Asset Management and Incident Reporting modules, the bank diagnosed clusters of high UPS infant mortality. This revealed suppliers were selling older batteries from storage and that installation errors were caused by cabinet design, enabling the client to make informed supplier decisions, revise commissioning policies, and improve capital planning forecasts.
