Valencia College, a large community college with high enrollment in accounting courses, was looking for a way to improve student preparedness and success in its Principles of Financial Accounting and Principles of Managerial Accounting classes, especially in hybrid and online formats. The school needed a better way to get students to read, engage with course content, and perform well before class, as success rates in some sections had been below standard.

McGraw Hill implemented Connect® Accounting with LearnSmart for Valencia College’s accounting courses, making LearnSmart assignments part of the course grade and due before class sessions. The results were strong: about 20% more students were succeeding at higher rates, withdrawals dropped from roughly 21% to 12%, and class time shifted from basic lecturing to higher-level learning and group work. McGraw Hill’s solution helped improve both student preparedness and overall course success.
