University of West Florida used McGraw Hill’s Connect® Economics in Dr. Richard Hawkins’ blended macroeconomics course to help students come to class prepared and understand the chapter material before lectures. Hawkins needed a way to prompt pre-class reading and identify where students were struggling so he could spend more class time on higher-level discussion, current events, and related research.

McGraw Hill implemented Connect with LearnSmart pre-class assignments and weekly Connect homework tied to each chapter. The results were strong: grading time dropped from 120 minutes to 20 minutes per week, median test scores rose by about eight points, and students in the lowest 25th percentile improved by more than ten points. McGraw Hill’s solution also helped Hawkins expand section sizes and shift class time from basic definitions to deeper application and discussion.
