A McGraw Hill Case Study
The University of Alabama faced a challenge: Kevin Woosley wanted a modern, relevant textbook for his massive music appreciation course (about 3,000 students a semester) because existing texts were overly technical and outdated. He partnered with McGraw Hill and its Open Learning Solutions (OLS) platform to build a course-specific, interactive eBook tailored to non-music majors.
McGraw Hill worked with Woosley for nine months to turn his manuscript into an OLS-based digital course, embedding Spotify playlists, YouTube and original videos, curated images, and integrated, auto-graded quizzes accessible on phones, tablets, and PCs. The McGraw Hill solution launched on August 22 across eight sections of roughly 400 students each, produced positive student feedback, enabled real-time term-to-term updates for Spring 2019, and delivered measurable scale and digital assessment automation while boosting student engagement.
