Texas Tech University - Customer Case Study

Texas Tech University faced low student engagement and poor long-term habit formation in entry-level physical education and health courses, where many students treated classes as easy credits rather than opportunities to build lifelong healthy behaviors. Professor Marc Lochbaum sought a scalable, customizable, and cost-effective solution and worked with McGraw Hill to find a way to better teach the science of health and motivate sustained activity.

McGraw Hill implemented its Connect platform—using Connect with SmartBook and the tailored Connect Get Active modules—to deliver adaptive, video-rich lessons, personalize learning, track outcomes, and centralize grading. The solution increased student engagement, improved understanding of nutrition, fitness, and health topics, and produced healthier student behaviors; the case study highlights a notable 60% metric and reports measurable gains in engagement and sustained lifestyle changes while freeing instructors to focus on practical, in-class activities.
