Maysville Community and Technical College (MCTC) faced low student success and delayed access to course materials in its online College Physics I course. Instructor Scott Miller adopted McGraw Hill’s Inclusive Access and Connect Physics (including SmartBook) to give students day-one, digital access to the textbook and integrated homework so learners would start immediately and be more likely to read and engage with the material.

McGraw Hill’s Connect Physics and SmartBook were integrated into Blackboard with weekly SmartBook chapters, homework, quizzes and online problem sessions, allowing immediate feedback and automated grading. The change raised the share of students earning A’s, B’s, and C’s from 31% to 52% (a 21-point increase) and reduced D/E/W outcomes from 69% to 48%, while also cutting instructor prep time and improving student retention.
