A McGraw Hill Case Study
Lincoln University faced persistent challenges with inaccurate math placement, inequitable access to prerequisite skills, and low persistence in gateway math courses that hinder STEM pathways. To address these issues, Lincoln University partnered with McGraw Hill and implemented ALEKS PPL along with ALEKS course-instruction and a redesigned math lab pedagogy focused on problem-solving and critical thinking.
Using McGraw Hill’s ALEKS PPL, Lincoln provided students with adaptive assessment, personalized Prep & Learning modules, and opportunities to reassess, producing measurable improvements in student success in gatekeeper math courses, according to Lincoln’s math chair. McGraw Hill’s ALEKS PPL has also shown broader impacts: 50% of students who spent at least six hours in the learning modules improved at least one placement level, and implementations report about a 76% average college-level math success rate, narrowed equity gaps, increased retention, and higher STEM enrollment.
