Indiana University Purdue University - Customer Case Study

Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) was looking for a more effective way to support students in Principles of Sociology while reducing instructor workload. With McGraw Hill’s Connect Sociology and Blackboard LMS integration, Professor Curtis D. Hosier sought to replace an underperforming digital program, improve student performance, and save time on quizzes, exams, and grading.

McGraw Hill’s Connect and SmartBook were used for exams, quizzes, and pre-lecture preparation, allowing Hosier to focus lectures more on concepts and theory. The results were strong: passing rates increased from 73.3% to 87%, retention rose from 88% to 95%, attendance increased from 90% to 95%, and students scored about one letter grade better on tests. Hosier also estimated McGraw Hill’s system saved him 30 minutes of grading each week.
