A MazeMap Case Study
The University of Stavanger faced a significant challenge with meeting room availability, where users complained of a lack of rooms despite data showing underutilization. The two main issues were difficulty in locating available rooms and a high rate of "fake usage," where rooms were booked but not occupied. To address this, the university partnered with vendor MazeMap and its indoor mapping and space booking solutions.
MazeMap's solution provided intuitive, color-coded maps to help users easily find and book the closest available room. Crucially, by integrating sensors, the system could detect when a booked room was unoccupied and automatically release it after a set period of idle time. This allowed other users to reclaim these unused spaces. The implementation had a measurable impact, with MazeMap helping to free up 22% of all meeting room bookings due to no-shows in October 2019 alone, drastically improving room utilization and user experience.
