Leading Brokering Packet Provider Leverages Maxta Storage for Simplicity and Improved Performance of Testing & Development VMs

VSS Monitoring, a Danaher company and leading network packet broker provider, faced severe storage-performance issues in its VMware ESX engineering environment where two test/development VMs generated massive IOPS spikes. The team needed improved read/write performance, enterprise-class data services, simple management and low CAPEX/OPEX to extend the cluster life without a costly hardware refresh. After evaluating alternatives, VSS Monitoring selected Maxta and its Maxta Storage Platform (MxSP).

Maxta implemented MxSP across the engineering cluster, delivering roughly twice the IOPS (depending on workload), eliminating performance complaints, and enabling measurable gains: VM template deployment dropped from 17 to 3 minutes, code-file open times fell from 5–6 minutes to seconds, and the hardware refresh was delayed by about two years. Maxta also provided enterprise features (high availability, snapshots, cloning) and delivered up to ~80% cost savings versus competing arrays.
