Maxoptra Speeds Food Service Deliveries for Arthur David Food

Arthur David, a Somerset-based food service distributor, needed better control over distribution costs while maintaining high service levels for next-day deliveries to schools, hotels and conference centres. With up to 90 vehicles, 70 daily runs and around 2,500 orders delivered each day, many with tight delivery windows, the company’s fixed-route approach was no longer efficient. Arthur David chose Maxoptra’s cloud-based Distribution platform, alongside TomTom Pro driver terminals, to improve scheduling and route planning.

Maxoptra implemented dynamic scheduling and route optimisation to re-sequence existing routes first, then move toward daily dynamic optimised routing. This gave Arthur David better vehicle utilisation, capacity and driving-hour control, early warning of issues such as overloaded vehicles or missed delivery slots, and real-time vehicle visibility to keep customers informed. Maxoptra said the change would generate considerable annual savings, with future dynamic routing potentially increasing those savings by a factor of 10.
