Victoria & Albert Museum debuts AVALANCHE in 2019 with Matthew McCormick Studio

The Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) collaborated with Matthew McCormick Studio to create a compelling and experiential installation for the London Design Festival. The challenge was to design a temporary exhibit that would engage visitors on a deep, emotional level, specifically to provoke reflection on environmental change and personal mortality.

Matthew McCormick Studio designed and installed "Avalanche," a highly reflective and immersive chamber constructed using stretched Barrisol material and Osram LED lighting. The solution successfully created a disorienting and personal experience for visitors, metaphorically representing an avalanche to encourage self-reflection. The installation was a conspicuous feature at the V&A, achieving its goal of combining art with a powerful message about environmental awareness and societal responsibility.
