The National University of Singapore chooses Mattermost for student-faculty collaboration

The National University of Singapore faced a need to modernize collaboration between tens of thousands of students and faculty with a secure, scalable, hostable messaging platform that would replace ad‑hoc use of Facebook and unreliable Jabber. After evaluating alternatives, NUS selected Mattermost — the open source messaging system — to meet requirements for security, scalability, LDAP integration, and cost‑effectiveness.

Mattermost was rolled out quickly (about a week to install and a few days for LDAP/configuration) and is now deployed as one server with an E20 license; roughly three years after adoption students and staff use it for digital classrooms, research teams, and interest communities. Mattermost’s solution delivered faster onboarding, secure private‑cloud collaboration (including Zoom integration for calls), improved educational engagement, the ability to invite external collaborators, and a higher ROI for the university.
