Rocky Linux, a community enterprise operating system, needed a messaging and collaboration platform that could scale with its rapidly growing open source community while aligning with its values of openness and transparency. The team also required support for IRC, LDAP integration, and the ability to self-host for greater control over data and infrastructure. They chose Mattermost Starter Edition for a modern, community-friendly collaboration hub.

Mattermost implemented a multi-node, high-availability deployment for Rocky Linux, integrated with Matterbridge, LDAP, and Welcome Bot, and supported custom branding and extensibility for future plugins and tools. The result was a centralized communication hub for a globally distributed community with more than 5,300 active users, helping Rocky Linux collaborate across platforms and continue expanding its open source ecosystem.
