AlmaLinux builds a global digital community with Mattermost

AlmaLinux, the open source foundation behind AlmaLinux OS, needed a modern, inclusive digital gathering place for its globally distributed community of contributors. As the project grew, it wanted a communication platform that was open source, easy to use, and scalable enough to support thousands of people working asynchronously and in real time. The team chose Mattermost as its collaboration hub.

Using Mattermost, AlmaLinux organized conversations into channels by project, topic, and team, reduced reliance on email, and used private channels for more focused discussions. It also extended Mattermost with webhooks and integrations such as Grafana for automatic alerts. As a result, AlmaLinux built a community of more than 2,000 active users, with over 100,000 posts across 30 channels since 2021, and Mattermost became the central “glue” holding the community together.
