Essentia Health faced cumbersome system navigation, incomplete and inefficient documentation, a tedious survey process, and disparate billing systems across facilities. To address these challenges, Essentia Health implemented the MatrixCare EHR across its Sandstone facility (and is rolling it out to other sites) to replace paper charts and legacy systems and support bundled payment and outcomes-based care.

MatrixCare delivered a fully paperless facility, standardized surveys, one centralized billing office, and improved clinical workflows—resulting in measurable gains: medication errors fell about 20% to nearly zero, medication pass time was cut in half, and Month End Close improved from at least 10 days to a target of the 3rd business day. MatrixCare’s intuitive interface, eMAR and Order modules, and centralized data also reduced support needs, improved documentation quality, and enabled organization-wide reporting and visibility.
