Software Asset Management License management for complex organizational structure

The NGD Group (Norddeutsche Gesellschaft für Diakonie) is a highly decentralized social enterprise supporting around 5,500 employees across 300+ locations with roughly 4,000 computers. Their 25‑person IT team had been managing workspaces without professional desktop management—relying on WSUS, images and manual license lists—which made updates slow, inventory incomplete and compliance difficult. To address this, they evaluated vendors and selected Matrix42, first deploying Matrix42 Empirum for software distribution and later Matrix42 License Management.

Matrix42, with partner lmbit, implemented Empirum in 2013 and rolled out Matrix42 License Management beginning at the end of 2014; the NGD Group then passed a Microsoft audit in winter 2015/2016. The solution delivered quicker updates, automated inventory of ~4,000 devices, centralized license procurement, improved patch management and optimized processes—yielding time and cost savings and enabling ongoing automation of internal license billing and location‑agnostic software deployment.
