A MathWorks Case Study
Xerox’s Innovation Group needed to verify and improve complex printer paper‑path control—ensuring strict position and velocity for every sheet—while avoiding delays from waiting for hardware. To model, simulate, and rapidly prototype controllers and collect real‑time signals, Xerox turned to MathWorks tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, and Simulink Real‑Time.
MathWorks delivered an integrated Model‑Based Design workflow: Xerox used Simulink and System Identification Toolbox to build and tune plant models, Stateflow and Control System Toolbox to design state‑based controllers, and Simulink Coder with Simulink Real‑Time for hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing and code generation. The MathWorks toolchain enabled partial hardware interchange, extensive data logging, and rapid prototyping—reducing controls development time by up to 80% (about 5× faster on many tasks), streamlining workflow, and allowing tests to proceed independently of the hardware schedule.
