VPKBIET, Baramati Provides Open Access to MATLAB and Simulink to Prepare Students in Rural Areas for Careers in Industry

VPKBIET, Baramati, is a tier‑2 engineering institute serving many rural and low‑income students that wanted to equip graduates with industry‑relevant software skills but faced cost, faculty training, and limited industry‑connection challenges. To address this, VPKBIET partnered with MathWorks to make MATLAB and Simulink widely available through a Campus‑Wide License and the Online Training Suite (OTS), integrating these tools into the curriculum across departments to better prepare students for careers in industry.

MathWorks’ solution—Campus‑Wide License, OTS, and ongoing campus support—was implemented with first‑year MATLAB Fundamentals courses, MATLAB Grader and live scripts, a Center of Excellence (MARVEL), faculty mentors, promotion campaigns, and regular visits from MathWorks engineers. The result: open, anytime access to industry‑standard software, widespread OTS certification, increased awareness of AI/deep learning and Model‑Based Design, and tangible outcomes such as students filing patents and winning competitions including the Smart India Hackathon.
