U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy Accelerate Test Data Analysis

The U.S. Air Force, working with Navy and DoD propulsion test centers, faced fragmented, manual test-data workflows that duplicated effort, slowed post-flight evaluations, and made it difficult to determine quickly whether aircraft could safely fly the next day. To address the need for fast, intuitive analysis and enterprise-wide consistency, the teams selected MathWorks’ MATLAB (and related toolboxes) as their primary data-analysis platform.

MathWorks implemented a standardized, MATLAB-based approach under a Test Center to Test Center Memorandum of Agreement, enabling shared development and reuse of aero-propulsion post-test tools across AEDC, AFFTC, and NAVAIR. The MathWorks solution cut development time by two-thirds, produced projected savings of millions of dollars (about $15M avoided over five years), and delivered immediate, shared access to consistent test results for faster, more reliable engine and inlet analysis.
