Trient Develops Financial Analytics Platform to Support Its Investment Team

Trient Asset Management, an Oslo-based investment firm, faced difficulties handling and sharing many gigabytes of global market data using spreadsheets. To support its investment team and scale analyses across asset classes, Trient turned to MathWorks and built a data analytics platform using MATLAB and associated toolboxes to replace error-prone Excel workflows.

MathWorks helped Trient implement a MATLAB-based solution (leveraging Database Toolbox, Datafeed Toolbox, Financial and Econometrics Toolboxes, Parallel Computing Toolbox, and others) to ingest, clean, enhance, and analyze large data sets with object-oriented components and screening frameworks. The MathWorks solution automated monthly manual calculations to run daily, sped up computations about tenfold on a 12-core processor, and enabled new asset-class screening models to be implemented in hours, improving analyst productivity and insight.
