A MathWorks Case Study
TC-Helicon, a joint venture of TC Electronic A/S and IVL Technologies Ltd., develops vocal processors such as the VoicePrism and the VoiceCraft Human Voice Modeling Card. To produce DSP-ready voice-transformation algorithms that sound authentically human, the team needed a physical source‑and‑filter model of the voice and the ability to listen and iterate in real time, so they used MathWorks tools including MATLAB and Simulink (with Signal Processing toolboxes) for algorithm development and prototyping.
Using MathWorks MATLAB, Simulink and signal‑processing toolboxes, TC-Helicon created a real‑time physical model, rapidly tested hypotheses (often in hours or a single day), and used Simulink models as templates for final DSP code. The MathWorks workflow cut debugging and implementation cost, accelerated development, enabled a significantly more authentic “growl” effect that made it into the VoiceCraft release, and helped bring the product to market with strong customer feedback and adoption by major bands.
