A MathWorks Case Study
STIWA, an Austrian automation leader, faced the challenge of extracting actionable insights from massive, high-frequency shopfloor data—more than 9 MB every eight seconds in 150,000 data sets—so they could optimize trajectories and machine parameters faster than their prior PLC-based workflow allowed. To meet this need they adopted MathWorks technology, using MATLAB together with their AMS ZPoint‑CI and AMS Analysis‑CI shopfloor systems to move from slow, low-level implementations to a higher‑level, data‑driven development environment.
Using MathWorks' MATLAB and associated toolboxes, STIWA built a workflow to filter, visualize, and analyze production data, compute time‑optimal trajectories with Optimization Toolbox, accelerate calculations with Parallel Computing Toolbox, and deploy algorithms as .NET components via MATLAB Compiler and MATLAB Compiler SDK into AMS ZPoint‑CI/AMS Analysis‑CI for closed‑loop control. The MathWorks solution enabled near‑real‑time analysis, a tenfold increase in precision, a 30% reduction in total cycle time, large data sets analyzed in seconds, and streamlined deployment across multiple machines, substantially increasing production output.
