A MathWorks Case Study
RWTH Aachen University’s Institute of Automatic Control needed to teach modern control theory and practical tool use to large cohorts so graduates would be job-ready for automotive, rail, medical, and industrial controls. To meet this challenge the university integrated MathWorks products—especially MATLAB, Simulink and related toolboxes—through a Campus‑Wide License to give students hands‑on, industry‑relevant experience.
MathWorks delivered campus‑wide access to MATLAB, Simulink and more than 50 companion toolboxes, plus training workshops and course integration (e.g., Advanced Controls, Rapid Control Prototyping), enabling simulation, code generation (Simulink Coder) and real‑time prototyping (Simulink Real‑Time). As a result RWTH Aachen reports measurable impacts: positive employer feedback on graduate readiness, increased flexibility for students and faculty (students can work anywhere with campus access), accelerated research contributions from students, and broad participation in weekly workshops (~100 students).
